Bleiberg (AT), 2011:

Werner Berg Museum

A series of disparate images

Stationary PAINTINGS hung in frames on the wall in a museum exhibition, opposite

Rough, flickering FILM images with Polaroid-like quality, taken from TV news reports, reworked, and also projected into frames, alongside

DANCERS who shimmy between the spectators, forging paths and opening pockets of free space, framing themselves with sticks, fighting and competing against each other with the

AUDIENCE as witness. The usual opportunity for viewers to contemplate a work of art in peaceful tranquility disappears as they too become part of a multidimensional collage, their actions and expressions captured and projected in real time by the

LIVE-CAMERA.

This dynamic performance juxtaposes the fleeting quality of dance with fixed and framed works of art.  Art collides with everyday life, and with war.  Although the photos seem far away, those who look might meet their own gaze in a foregone event or distant region of the world – Fukushima, the near East, a Canadian blaze – and wish they could suppress it.
